Five days is the shortest stay that changes anything
A residential retreat with a fixed daily rhythm, no phones in the dining room and no treatments sold on arrival.
The constraints we run to
The programme is set before you arrive
A retreat that sells you a treatment on arrival is selling the wrong thing. The programme is set before you come, it does not change while you are here, and nothing is added to it for a fee — because the value of a fixed rhythm is precisely that no decisions are asked of you. Days start at the same hour, meals are at the same hour, and the afternoon is genuinely unstructured rather than quietly full of optional extras.
The first two days are the hardest
Four programmes
You choose one before you travel. It does not change while you are here.
Rest
For people who are not ill and are not sleeping. Late start, no morning session, two long walks and an early dinner. The most-booked programme and the one guests are most sceptical of before they arrive.
Movement
Two guided sessions a day at a level set on the first morning, plus cold immersion for those who want it. Built for people who already train and have stopped enjoying it, rather than for beginners.
Skin and body
A consultation on the first afternoon and a fixed course of treatments across the stay, planned then and not extended afterwards. Products used are the ones we use — there is nothing to buy at the end.
Walking
Six to fourteen kilometres a day on the estate and the shola paths above it, with a guide who knows which routes are safe in which month. Evenings are entirely free.
The grounds
Eleven acres of old tea and shola forest, most of which is left alone.
What guests write at the end of a stay
I arrived expecting to be sold something every day and was not, once. By the third morning I had stopped checking what was next, which I think was the entire point and is not a thing I have managed on a holiday in fifteen years.
Check availability
Fourteen guests at a time, so the calendar is genuinely the constraint. Tell us the programme and the length of stay and we will come back with the dates that exist rather than the ones that nearly do.
Three nights is a hotel with a massage in it
We would rather say that than take the booking. If five nights is not possible this season, tell us and we will suggest when it will be.
